Thomas Ruggles Gold was the second child of Benjamin and Eleanor Johnson Gold. He was born on 25 Mar 1787 in Cornwall, Litchefield, Connecticut and died on 31 Dec 1829 in Washington, Litchfield, Connecticut. Thomas' father Benjamin Gold, was a deacon, farmer and merchant of Cornwall, Connecticut, and grandson of the Rev. Hezekiah Gold (Yale 1751), and was named after his father's brother, Thomas Ruggles Gold (Yale 1786). His mother Eleanor, was the daughter of Solomon and Eleanor (Pierce) Johnson, of Cornwall. Remaining in Cornwall after graduation, he distinguished himself as a teacher of the Hebrew and other languages on a system of his own. Thomas was also licensed to preach by the Litchfield North Association on September 29, 1815. During a visit to Washington, Connecticut he died on December 30, 1829, at the age of 43. He was never married.
