Nina Starr ca. 1920's

Over the many years that I have researched my family tree I have received many emails asking me how I know Nina Starr. Most people assume she is the natural daughter of Pony and Cassie Starr. I'm always happy to explain that she is my great aunt.
Nina Starr, born Minnie Berry on the 14 April 1903, was the adopted daughter of Samuel Saguila "Pony" Starr and Eliza Catherine "Cassie" Horn. Pony and Cassie were friends/family of my great grandparents, Samuel and Sarah Almedia Allen Berry. My great grandmother, Almedia, died May 24, 1903 40 days after the birth of her daughter Minnie. My grandfather, Woodall O'Kuykendall "Woda" Berry, brother of Nina was 6 years old when his sister was born and his mother died. He remembered the day Cassie Starr rode up on her horse and took his baby sister away.
Samuel Saguila "Pony" Starr and my great grandmother, Sarah Almedia Allen Berry were second cousins. Their grandmothers, Catherine Reese Starr (Pony) and Ellen Reese Boudinot Lowery (Almedia) were sisters. Cassie was at the birth of my grandfather, Woodall. I would imagine she attended the birth of the other children.
After the death of my great grandmother, Almedia, my great grandfather, Samuel A. Berry moved to Ranger, Eastland County, Texas with his remaining children, Emma, Woodall and Homer. He married his second wife, Ruth Clark. They had no children. Nina stayed with Pony and Cassie in Porum, OK.
When Nina was eight years old her family was involved in the Porum Range War. Please visit: http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Aegean/2480/rangewar1.html for this chapter in Nina's life.
It's getting late and I need to get to bed. I'll add more about Nina when I get a chance. Thank you for reading this page. If you would like to share your personal story about Nina and have it published on this page please email me at: gertrude2@juno.com
